Welcome to Richmond Montessori School!
Conveniently located on North Parham Road in Richmond’s West End, RMS is easily recognized by its International Flag Garden showcasing some of the 27 nationalities represented among the school’s students and staff.
Richmond Montessori School moved to its present location in 1974. The 6-acre campus contains four major buildings, administrative offices, a toddler and extended-care house and the newest addition, completed in August 2004, - a Science Resource Center. Classrooms for toddlers through middle school are designed in classic Montessori style and generally open to or look upon student-tended gardens and other natural settings. In addition to the new Science Resource Center (containing lab space and hands-on equipment), resource areas include a centrally located (approximately 7,000-volume) Library/Media Center, a fourteen-station Computer Lab, and airy Art Studio with kiln and spacious kitchens. Parsons Hall, a large Multi-Purpose facility, serves as gymnasium, theater, and assembly hall for gatherings.
RMS is set in a woodsy suburban area, surrounded by several nature trails and a creek. The campus features a soccer field, three age-appropriate playscapes, individual class gardens, lawn and an open-air student plaza and picnic deck. The grounds and gardens are incorporated into the curriculum and enjoyed as outside classrooms by students of all ages.
