“It’s all because of Montessori,” said Maria Davenport, now a Research Scientist at Vanderbilt University, who attended RMS through seventh grade.
“I felt academically prepared for high school. I knew how to independently work on my own, to be self driven and self motivated,” she said.
After attending Trinity High School and Wofford College, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology and sociology which led to her work in a molecular neuropharmacology lab.
As a student who initially struggled with school, she found community in the small environment at RMS.
“Had I gone to a big school, I wouldn’t have liked school. And I know I wouldn’t be where I am. It gave me the motivation to really enjoy learning about history, culture and math. “
While at RMS, she interned at a local veterinary clinic.
“It was the most life-changing event because it completely set me up for any career or job I’ve ever had.”
