Rites of Passage
Our physical landscape mirrors the growth of our students. The journey between South Campus and North Campus marks key milestones in a student's development, turning simple paths into memorable rites of passage.
The Wishing Woods
More than just a walking trail connecting South and North Campus, the Wishing Woods is the physical heart of RMS, a shared space where daily walks, outdoor time, and classroom lessons turn into lasting memories.
3rd Year Bridge Crossing
Rising 4th graders cross the bridge from South to North Campus, stepping confidently into their next developmental milestone.
Running of the Wishing Woods
Our graduating 8th graders take their ceremonial run up the Wishing Woods path while younger students line the way to cheer them on. It's a tradition of mentorship, joy, and collectives school pride.
Winterfest
One of RMS’s most beloved traditions, Winterfest brings our entire community together for a joyful celebration of cultures from around the world.
In the days leading up to Winterfest, classrooms are transformed as students research countries, prepare food, create displays, and design hands-on experiences to share with their families and peers. On the big day, students grab their passports and travel the RMS “globe”—exploring everything from art and history to geography, food, and global traditions.
But Winterfest is about more than what students learn. Families, students, and staculty come together to decorate classrooms, serve food, lead activities, and celebrate alongside one another.
Winterfest is RMS in action: meaningful, curious, hands-on learning; kind and empathetic students; and an inclusive, engaged community.
RMS Flag Garden
Our Flag Garden celebrates the global community that makes RMS so special. Each year, the flags are selected to reflect the countries and cultures represented within our school community, with every continent represented. The flags change annually, creating a visual celebration of the many backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that come together at RMS.
In 2026, our Flag Garden represents Antarctica, Argentina, Australia, Belize, Colombia, France, India, Japan, Malawi, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.
In accordance with U.S. flag etiquette, the United States flag is positioned on the left when facing the garden from Parham Road.
Mystery History
History comes to life during Mystery History, a beloved Lower Elementary tradition that combines research, creativity, and a little bit of mystery!
Students select a historical figure to study, diving into their life, accomplishments, and impact on the world. Then, they step into character, dressing as their figure and preparing clues while classmates put their historical knowledge and critical-thinking skills to the test.
The tradition culminates in a schoolwide parade, giving students the opportunity to share their learning with younger and older classmates and members of our neighboring community.
Mystery History is learning the Montessori way: curious, creative, connected, and meant to be shared.
Grandparents & Great Friends Day
Grandparents & Great Friends Day is a special RMS tradition that invites some of the most important people in our students’ lives to experience their school through their eyes.
Students welcome their guests to campus for a morning of connection and celebration. Guests enjoy student musical performances, visit classrooms to see Montessori learning in action, explore the Book Fair, and spend meaningful time alongside their students.
It’s a joyful opportunity to share the people, places, and experiences that make RMS feel like home.
