Parents Association

Parents Association

The Richmond Montessori Parents Association (RMPA) nurtures a strong school community for students and families through special projects and events that support and promote the school’s mission. The RMPA executive committee works closely with the school leadership team to plan multiple community-wide events and activities throughout the school year.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, we are unable to host our in-person events.

We are excited to offer the follow virtual events for our community:

DATE: Saturday, April 11 (create cards before this date)
Cards for Healthcare Workers
Let’s encourage our local healthcare workers with handmade cards. VCU Health is accepting letters of encouragement for healthcare workers to help brighten their day. Write and draw anything you’d like! Classes will meet virtually to share their cards with each other and talk about this event.
(A parent volunteer from each class is needed to host the virtual event for the class on Saturday, April 11 at a time of your choice. The volunteer will need to schedule the event at a time that works for you. You will need to arrange the virtual meeting and communicate this with your class. Sign up here to be the parent volunteer for your class.)
After the virtual meeting, mail your cards to VCU Health:
VCU Medical Center – Main Hospital
Attn.: Nathan Cunningham
1200 East Marshall Street, PO Box 989143
Richmond, VA 23298

DATE: Saturday, May 2
Scavenger Hunt
Every class can participate in a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunts will be fun, different and appropriate for each grade level. Your class will receive a list of items to find. Afterward, each class will join via Zoom or Google Meet to show off what they found, laugh, and talk about the event.
(A parent volunteer from each class is needed to host the virtual event for the class on Saturday, May 2 at a time of your choice. The volunteer will need to schedule the event at a time that works for you. You will need to arrange the virtual meeting and communicate this with your class. DATE: May 4-8
Teacher appreciation week
Don’t forget your teachers. Show your appreciation to your teacher via pictures, personal messages and notes of encouragement!

DATE: Saturday, May 9
The Great Family Take Out
We encourage your family to support local restaurants by getting take out or delivery on Saturday, May 9. Choose your family’s favorite local spot, take a photo and share the photo with Lburgess@richmont.org. We will post the photos to our Facebook and Instagram pages and tag the restaurant to show our support.

DATE: Saturday, May 16
Cooking, Grilling, or Baking
Would you like to teach the children in your child’s class how to cook, grill or bake? If you or your child have a simple lesson you’d like to share, you can have your own cooking show!
How this will work:
One parent/child from each class will teach a lesson on Saturday, May 16 for the class, who can watch along via Zoom or Google Meet. If you’d like for the audience to practice with you at the same time, you will need to tell the class what materials are needed in advance. Using Zoom or Google meet, you will host your show Saturday, May 16.
(Sign up here to teach the lesson for your child’s class. The volunteer will need to schedule the event at a time that works for you. You will need to arrange the virtual meeting and communicate this with your class.)

DATE: Wednesday, May 20 at 5 p.m.
Virtual Happy Hour for Parents
Join the other parents in your child’s class for a virtual happy hour. If you have more than one child, you can split your time between multiple happy hours.
(A parent volunteer from each class is needed to host the virtual event for the class on Wednesday, May 20 at 5 p.m. You will need to arrange the virtual meeting and communicate this with your class. Sign up here to be the parent volunteer for your class.)

DATE: Saturday, May 23
Share Your Pet with Your Class
Do you have a family pet you’d like to share with the class? Do you want to meet your friends’ pets? Join your class for a virtual pet show. Tell your pet’s name, how you take care of him/her, what they eat, and more.
(A parent volunteer from each class is needed to host the virtual event for the class on Saturday, May 23 at a time of your choice. The volunteer will need to schedule the event at a time that works for you. You will need to arrange the virtual meeting and communicate this with your class. Prior to COVID-19, the RMPA was hosting the following events and meetings:

    • Weekly Lunch Service
    • School Photos
    • Harvest Fest
    • Kindness Club
    • Fall BBGB Book Fair
    • Family Fun Night
  • Conference Day Child Care
  • School-wide Dance
  • Teacher Appreciation
  • Family Picnic

All meetings and events are planned and implemented by parent volunteers. We encourage all parents to contribute to the life of the school by getting involved in at least one event per year.  You can sign up for carpool, join a committee, help out at an event, or coordinate a project. Many of our events have needs that need to be met behind the scenes such as shopping for food items and decorations, data entry, or making signs for an event! It is a great way to get to know other parents, to share your special talents, and to support the RMS Community. The RMPA holds monthly planning meetings and all are welcome to attend and participate in RMPA events. Contact one of the Executive Committee members listed below or Committee Chairs to find out more!
